Tobi Harden
Tobi Johnson Harden is the owner of the TJH Speech Therapy Services, LLC. She is an educational and rehabilitative speech-language pathologist with 30+ years of experience in the field, working with children and adults of all ages. Born and raised in San Diego, California, Tobi completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Speech and Language Pathology in 1988 from Oakwood University in Huntsville, Alabama, through a consortium program with Alabama A & M University. Tobi worked in the San Diego Unified School District as a Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant in 1989 before entering a graduate school in the fall of 1989 at Howard University in Washington, DC.
Tobi completed her Master of Science degree in 1991 under the Infant Specialization Program at Howard University and obtained her Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) in 1992. She currently holds licensure in the states of Virginia and California.
Tobi has extensive experience with neurogenic based speech and language disorders in all areas of acute, sub-acute, in and out-patient rehabilitation, and long-term care to include disorders of aphasia, dysphagia, dysarthria, apraxia, trach and vents, and traumatic brain injuries through her employment in local hospitals in the Northern Virginia and Washington, DC areas.
Currently, Tobi provides private speech-language therapy and is employed in a local school division in the Northern Virginia area. She specializes in language disorders and articulation therapy in the severely unintelligible child.
Anita Powell Mitchel
With over 19 years of experience of servicing all populations from preschool to the geriatric community, Anita Mitchel has prided herself on using her skilled set as a seasoned Speech Language Pathologist. She has extensive experience with therapy tasks including fluency, language, articulation, voice and fluency skills. Anita is able to tailor her skills to meet the needs of clients with various speech, language, cognitive and dysphagia deficits. She has increased efficiency in several of her assigned roles, and is very effective with the supervision of newly graduated students entering the field of Speech and Language Pathology. She has effectively interacted directly with potential and existing clients and has superseded client satisfaction ratings in multiple arenas.
Anita graduated from Alabama A & M University in Normal, Alabama with a Bachelor of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders. She was able to matriculate to the next phase of education, receiving a Masters of Science degree also in Communication Sciences and Disorders. After graduation, she was recommended for a position as a long-term care and rehabilitation provider in a skilled nursing facility, where she served a total of 3 years. After only one year in that position, she served as an assistant to the Director of Rehabilitation. Anita’s responsibilities included scheduling, servicing patients, report writing, evaluations, assessment administration and the attending of weekly meetings with all heads of all departments.
Although her love for the geriatric population was evident, she decided to seek employment in the public school arena where she was able to specialize in the evaluation, diagnosis, treatment and academic support of children and adolescents with speech-language disorders. There, she was able to attain an enormous amount of education pertaining to student differences and developmental disabilities including attention deficit disorders, autism spectrum disorders and a plethora of other disabilities. Anita has much desired virtual experience where she has also provided services to that are not able to attend live therapy sessions due to various reasons.
Her abilities have fluctuated between long term care work and the public and private school sectors. Her knowledge of both areas has assisted her in gaining experience in many areas of speech and language where she has assisted students and patients in reaching their prospective goals.
Anita has been a long term member the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association (ASHA) in Rockville MD. She is also a member of the Georgia Speech-Language-Hearing Association (GSHA) and has annually attended conferences and seminars in order to enhance her speech and language skills.
